DJ Nature

Milo Johnson, known to many as DJ Nature, began his influential career in Bristol, UK. He was a founding member of The Wild Bunch, an eclectic sound system that also included Grant “Daddy Gee” Marshall and Paul “Nellee” Hooper. Their DJ sets were renowned for blending a wide array of genres, from funk and reggae to punk, new wave, and eventually hip-hop, electro, and Chicago house. This unique, multi-genre approach heavily influenced their productions for Island Records/4th & Broadway and is widely credited with helping to create the "Bristol Sound," a new musical genre that put the city on the map.

In the late 1980s, Johnson moved to New York City, where he launched a record exporting business - supplying music to Japan. While in New York, he immersed himself in the city's vibrant underground club scene, frequenting legendary venues like Better Days, Sound Factory Bar and New Jersey Club Zanzibar. Inspired by the raw, independent sounds of disco, jazz fusion, and early house music, he started producing his own tracks under the name Nature Boy. These early productions were released on his own label, Ruff Disco Records, starting in 1992.

After a hiatus, Johnson returned to music in 2010, recording under the new moniker DJ Nature. His compositions from this period were released on well-regarded labels such as Golf Channel Recordings (US) and Jazzy Sport (Japan).

In 2024, co-written with Laurie Owens, Milo published the book of his memoirs “Stray”. “Stray” offers a compelling look at Milo's life as a pioneer of the Bristol Sound and a deeply personal account of his struggles. It’s an unflinching exploration of abuse and abandonment, showing how Johnson's journey shaped his groundbreaking contributions to music.
